Mauro Oretti is Vice President Marketing & Commercial at SkyTeam, which he joined in 2009. He started his corporate career in 1985 as export manager in the automotive industry with Valeo, in Turin (Italy) – his hometown. He moved to Alitalia in the early 90s, where he covered a number of positions in the commercial field, working in Frankfurt, New York, Milan and Rome. In 1997 he created a new department entirely dedicated to alliances. He witnessed the rise and fall of the KLM-Alitalia quasi-merger, then helped forge the Italian carrier’s new partnership strategy and its entrance into the global SkyTeam alliance. In SkyTeam he is responsible for the commercial and marketing areas, including sales, marketing, sustainability and customer loyalty. He is co-author of the book “Airline Choices for the Future: from Alliances to Mergers” (Ashgate, 2007), and in 2008 and 2010 has taught the International Partnership & Joint Ventures course at the Luiss University, in Rome, as part of their Aviation MBA. He is an advisory board member for the MSc International Business and Management (IB&M) at the Faculty of Economics and Business – University of Groningen, Groningen, the Netherlands. He currently lives in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
